A year has got 365 days,
but a leap year has got 366 days. A leap year
comes every four years.
There are four seasons in a year. They are
winter, spring, summer and autumn.
Winter brings us snowflakes,
Winter
Winter begins in December. The winter months are
December, January and February. The weather in
winter is cold, frosty and windy in winter. The
temperature is low. It often snows. Everything
is white with snow. Gardens, fields and forests
look wonderful in winter. The days are short and
the nights are long. Winter is the coldest
season in a year, but children like winter. They
can have a very good time in winter. They can
enjoy skating, skiing, playing snowballs and
sledging.
Winter
is time for fun. We celebrate New Year on the 31st
of December and Christmas on the 7th
of January. Besides children have got their
winter holidays in January.
Spring
Spring begins in March. It lasts for three
months: March, April and May. In early spring
the weather is changeable. Sometimes it is cold
and rainy. The temperature is low. In late
spring the sun begins to shine brightly, and the
weather is sunny and warm. The temperature is
higher. The days become longer and the nights
shorter.
Spring is a wonderful season. Everything begins
to grow. In April buds and green leaves appear
in the trees. In May the first flowers show up.
They are snowdrops, violets and tulips. Birds
cone back from warm countries and begin to make
their nests. Children make bird-houses for
birds.
In
spring there are many holidays: the 8th
of March. the 1st
of May and the 9th
of May. Besides children have spring holidays.
Children like spring because they can be
out-of-doors for a long time. They play
different games: hopscotch, leapfrog and tag.
They often go for walks. In spring children like
to spend their weekends in the country. It is
very pleasant to be in fresh air in spring.
Everything is full of life and joy.
Summer
Summer begins in June and lasts for three
months: June, July and August. Summer is the
hottest season. The weather is warm, sunny and
bright. Everybody likes summer.
June is the most pleasant month of the year. The
days are the longest and the nights are the
shortest. The sun rises early in the morning and
sets late in the evening. It gets light early in
the morning and dark late in the evening.
July is the warmest month of the year. The sun
is bright and hot. Summer is in full beauty in
July. There are a lot of flowers in the gardens,
fields and woods. Birds sing their songs.
Many people go to the country in summer. Summer
is the best season for sports in the open air.
People go in for different kinds of sports. They
play football, volleyball, basketball, tennis,
they bathe and swim.
Schoolchildren have their summer holidays. They
last for three months. Children spend their
holidays at the seaside or in the country. They
go for long walks, run or play different games.
In late summer there are a lot of vegetables.
fruit and cereals. People go to the wood to
gather berries and mushrooms.
Autumn
Autumn begins in September and lasts for three
months: September, October and November. In
early autumn the weather is sunny, bright and
warm. We call this period the Indian summer.
In late autumn the weather gets colder. It often
rains. The weather is cloudy and dull, rainy and
wet. The days become shorter and the nights
become longer. The temperature is low. Birds go
away to warmer countries.
Autumn is a beautiful season. The leaves are
red, brown, orange, green and yellow. They fall
down to the ground.
Autumn is a dull season, but it is a tasty
season, because there are a lot of fruit and
vegetables in autumn.
Autumn is a season when a school-year begins.
